Burnt umbra is a earth color with a deep, chestnut brown tone. Roasted umbra is made by annealing of Umbra nature, which is extracted from iron- and manganese-containing clay. The annealing gives the pigment a warm, powerful, deep, chocolate brown tone.

 

The pigment is quite fine-grained, quite light and fluffy and can tease when handled.

 

The pigment is light, water, - oil, - and calcareous.

The pigment is described as non-toxic. However, it is always advisable to use a dust mask when working with pigments.
