Kalcito Lime Paint
Kalcito lime paint is suitable for mineral substrates such as filler, plaster, brickwork, mortar, and concrete—for both interior and exterior use. It is a lime paint that we have developed and manufacture in-house.
With a history dating back to antiquity, lime is not only one of the most beautiful finishes available but also one of the most traditional and time-tested.
Lime has a long tradition as a surface treatment for exterior facades. Lime paint is highly breathable (vapor-permeable), making it ideal for plastered facades and older buildings that need to breathe. Buildings treated with lime paint generally maintain a healthy structural condition precisely because water vapor can be absorbed and released as needed. Healthy buildings ensure a good indoor climate, and lime itself possesses antibacterial properties due to its high pH value—a feature that further contributes to a healthy indoor environment.
A limewashed surface changes its appearance in response to fluctuating moisture levels in the masonry and the air; this creates beautiful, characteristic tonal variations, resulting in a look that is—depending on the color depth and application technique—vibrant, authentic, and rustic.
Kalcito lime paint is a DIY product, meaning you mix the paint yourself by adding water. Using a power drill or similar tool fitted with a mixing attachment is preferable (alternatively, an immersion blender can be used); this yields the best and most uniform result compared to simply stirring with a paint stick.
The application method determines the final appearance of the surface. Long, smooth strokes in a single direction create a calmer look, whereas crisscross brushstrokes produce a more dynamic, lively effect.
It is important to remember that Kalcito lime paint must be applied using a "wet-on-wet" technique. Therefore, paint one section at a time without pausing, and paint the edges simultaneously with the main surface area to ensure the best result.
A brush with full, dense bristles is preferable, as it creates a more traditional look. Kalcito lime paint is not suitable for roller application due to its very low viscosity; using a roller carries a risk of the paint running.
Lime paint has a matte, timeless finish with beautiful color variations.
After mixing, Kalcito lime paint will appear darker in the bucket; this is perfectly natural. Do not be alarmed if the mixed paint looks much darker than you anticipated, as the color will lighten once it dries.
Kalcito colors are based on our natural paint palette and are currently available in approximately 60 shades, in addition to white.
